Next 5 shots taken underwater with underwater camera.

Hedge Creek Falls, Dunsmuir California

A great spot to cool off on a hot summer afternoon.
This small waterfall tumbles over a cliff of columnar basalt lava
and then continues to cascade over bedrock outcrops and boulders for a short distance to the Sacramento River. The cliff provides a cave to play in behind the waterfall.
We had a wonderful time catching salamanders and just getting wet!

Our weekend visit to Klamath NWR Complex
It has been cold and clear. We were not sure if we should go to the refuge or not. However, after discussing the upcoming weather, we decided this would be our only chance for the next few weeks. A storm is coming in at the end of this week and then there will more then likely be fog.
The weather was a crisp cold, not even jack frost was out it was so dry. It was eerily quite. I have never heard it so quiet out there. The ducks, geese and small song birds must still be down south were it is a little warmer. There was a significant amount of ice all around. We did see a number of eagles, mostly at Tule Lake.
Petroglyph point had no owls or hawks perching on the many ledges or cavities. Ususally you can catch a glimpse of a barn owl, but even they were not peeking their heads out into the cold sunshine.
I look forward to returning in about a month.

Eagle Photography Season is here....

My favorite time of year is quickly approaching. It is time to visit the Klamath and Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuges where images like this can be taken and spectacular views will be burned into your memory. One way to do this is to attend the Winter Wings
festival.
